look at the import module in "Administration -> Import"
this module allows to specify a csv format file to import companies
and contacts

Hi to the list and first of all: thanks for this software
I'm looking and testing different groupware solutions like OBM which is
the one that seems to suits better our needs.
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like one can import a list of contacts
in LDIF or CSV format. In my case, we have more than 1500 contacts to
import and doing this manually is simply not affordable by people who
are gonna make it.
Did I miss the option to do so (and if it's the case, where to find it
and use it) or the option simply doesn't exist (meaning I will have to
forget the idea of using OBM, which would be a shame considering how I
like it at first sight)?
Whatever your answers might be, thank you again for this great application!
