Taiwan Power Buys 17 Million Tons of Coal for 2008 to 2018 By Trisha Huang Nov. 1 (Bloomberg) -- Taiwan Power Co., the island's biggest electricity producer, bought 17 million metric tons of power station coal to be delivered from next year until as late as 2018, a trader involved in the transactions said. The company signed six-year, eight-year and 10-year contracts with four suppliers, said the trader who asked not to be identified because of company rules. The company will buy 500,000 tons annually from each of two Chinese suppliers, and 500,000 tons each from an Australian and an Indonesian producer (BUMI...?) , he said, declining to name the suppliers. Power-station coal shipped from Australia's Newcastle port traded at a record $82 a metric ton, the Tex Report said Oct. 30. The price broke the previous record of $80.25 a ton set earlier last month, the Japanese coal industry newsletter said.
