Indo CPO biggest market is India, Pakisatan, China and... market domestik.
EU tries to protect their rapeseed and sunflower based oil through climate
change issues. Berita di bawah ini adalah kelanjutan usaha mereka dalam
menerapkan so called RSPO.

NEW YORK TIMES today wrote:
In a sign of growing concern about the impact of supposedly "green" policies,
European Union officials will propose a ban on imports of certain biofuels,
according to a draft law to be unveiled next week. The ban would primarily
affect palm oil and possibly the Latin American imports.
If approved by European governments, the law would prohibit the importation of
fuels derived from crops grown on certain kinds of land, including forests,
wetlands or grasslands, into the 27-nation bloc.

OUR ANALYST, TING MIN TAN, SAYS:
- If EU were to ban palm-biodiesel, there could be a knee-jerk impact on
plantation stock prices but fundamentally, this measure will have a minimal
impact on underlying demand for palm oil. Any weakness in plantation share
prices is an opportunity to buy.
- This is because vegetable oils are substitutes of each other. Hence, if
palm-biodiesel is banned, palm oil will still be imported into the EU as food.
Vegetable oil prices move in tandem with one another, and as long as EU moves
ahead with its biofuel policies, veg oil inventories will continue to be drawn
down, and this will support palmoil prices.
- EU is the second largest importer of palm oil in the world (after China) and
the bulk of its ends up in food; it imports some 5mn tonnes or 13-14%% of
global CPO production.
- The Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) has been set up to address the
"sustainability" issues. The RSPO will get an audit ready to issue
certification for plantation companies which adopt environmentally- friendly
practices. The large Malaysian and Indonesian plantation companies are all
members of RSPO and are generally complaint.
- We wrote an entire report on sustainability in Sept-2007. The report is
attached.
