I've seen this problem -- I suspect a problem in the makefiles. I'll

Your kernel needs to have multicast support compiled in. Under
networking options enable 'IP: Multicasting', compile, install, boot
etc.
For starters, don't change the multicast address. Use 225.2.1.5:4420 as
the default and then invoke freeamp like this: freeamp
rtp://225.2.1.5:4420
Multicast addresses are not like regular IPs -- you cannot ping them
and they fall into a special segment of the IP space. The above address
should work right out of the box -- make sure that obs and freeamp are
both using the same ones.

Hmmm. I've never seen that happen before. Does it work ok for 128 kbit
files? If so, then I think there is a bug with libshout and we should
Jack Moffitt (creator and maintainer of libshout) know about the
problem.

I don't think the stock kernel has multicast enabled -- that might be
one of your problems.
