These sections should be indicating polling periods where the device was
marked as down.
Check for "device status changed to" events in the device eventlog.

I am dealing with IT who has no understanding about networks, they
have looked at a particular graph on Observium being the device
availability and blaming that the issue is the switch based on what
they see on the graph.
The availability is 100% however there are sections that are shown
red. Could you tell me what the red gradings is supposed to represent
please?
