Three of us (all members of the ONW) heard over the radios y/day (Sat,
10.1.09) that a resident thought that a robbery might be about to take
place at the Spar. So we went down to the Spar in a car and sat
outside. Whilst just observing what was happening in the vicinity of
the Spar, we saw an ADT security guard running down towards the
station and holding on to the wrist of a young chap. So our driver,
AfricanDebs, drove us down to the station where it transpired
that......

Four young chaps (all friends - 3 of whom were definitely from Burns
Rd in Salt River) were walking along the railway line (if I have
understood correctly) running alongside Milton Rd (below the line).
Along rode a young woman on her bicycle with a cell phone hanging from
her neck. Two of the young coloured friends apparently jumped the
fence and knocked this woman off her bike, stole her cell phone -
after which all four of them bolted. The woman then bolted after them
on her bicycle. Fairly successfully I would say, because somehow,
somewhere, the ADT security guard caught up with one of them - who was
ultimately driven off from the Obs Station in a van with Constable
Ontong (whom AfricanDebs had called to the scene with her 2-way
radio). Nice work ADT!!.....and thanks to our SAPS for supporting
us. The 2-way radios came in very handy yesterday......

The final outcome I've yet to hear about.
