Just to make sure we are clear on this.  Charlie, our German Shepherd is one 
of our companion animals.  He is not our guard dog, we have ADT Bicycle 
Patrol and Rapid Response, we have burgular guards and an alarm system. 
Charlie was doing what all members of a good family do when under threat - 
protecting us, as we protect him. I wholeheartedly agree that dogs are not 
here to replace alarm systems - but they are a good deterrent and even 
better friends.
