Helen, why does it have to be in writing and not via e-mail? I gues because i has to be signed? Can it be faxed and if yes, to what number? I would happily object to more liquer licences for Obs main Rd, but do not often have the time to drop a letter. Maybe we ( as Obs Civic) need to make a survey of OBS Main Rd and indicate which type of liqour selling establishments are contributing and whcih detracts from the type of business area we would like to see for OBS. The Main Rd comes across as pretty seedy in places. Can we have more info about the type of establishment that is applying? Thanks Natalie Ps 1. Do we know what the trading hours are for this establishment 2. How many objections are required for them to turn it down? 3. On what grounds are licences turned down? ( e.g- close to residences, trading hours etc.)

From: Gregory Todd [mailto:[email protected]] Sent:Subject: Liquor Licence Application Dear Ward forum Members and Community Organisations Attached please find a copy of notices of applications for liquor licenses submitted to the department of Trade & Industry in term of the Liquor Act, 1989 The notice of the applications all appeared in Government gazette No 32054 on 20090403. Subcouncils have the delegated authority to comment on applications for liquor licenses within twenty eight [28] days from publishing such applications. I look forward to your attention and prompt response as you need to scrutinise the application in terms of the zoning scheme, applicable licences and whether they are operating within requirements of health. The opinion is held that City Of Cape Town Planning has a duty to object to any application where the correct zoning is not in place for the type of license for which application is being made. The information should be easily accessible and we therefore request the department to interpret the professional input so that it can be easily understood by other stakeholders and the implications thereof on the incumbent. I need to submit relevant feedback to the relevant Magistrate and SAPS offices and need to include your feedback. I shall appreciate it, if you could let me have your written comment in respect of the attached notices of application[s] before or on 20 April 2009.
