Might be worth speaking to someone in the know for an opinion .

Try this lady, she's an old school friend of mine and is involved in

I think you will need plans drawn up, as this is a major structure, once
this is done you will need to pass then through the Heritage committee, if
they pass them and agree it is in keeping with the do's and dont's of this
group, then the final stage through the city council.

Doug.

Subject: [obsnw] security versus heritage

Hi there,
We live in a heritage house and we have a heritage wall which in the past we
were told we couldn't modify. Our wall is short and easy to jump over and
does not have any deterrents on it (i.e. metal spikes etc). We have
recently experienced multiple attempts to gain access to our house and we
would like to modify the wall/build a new one that will make it higher and
less easy to jump over and also incorporate deterrents (thinking combining
brick and iron with metal spikes).
We are wanting to maintain the image and respect the heritage of the area we
live in but also increase our safety and security without irritating the
council.
Can we go ahead with making changes to the wall or do we need to apply for
permission to the council?

Thank you,
