Here are some simple questions which if answered in the affirmative would make Obs a much safer place. 1. Does Oxford Rd have a street leader? (I"m sure it does.) 2. Was this incident reported to the street leader (who could then feed it back to other Oxford Rd residents and make sure it gets reported more widely). 3. Was it posted on the google group and on the www.obz.org.za website? 4. Was it reported to the police (this is vital). 5. Is someone following up progress with the case. e.g. Are these the same 'armed robbers' whose arrest is reported elsewhere on the group? It should be obvious that the key persons in this chain of communication are (a) the people who were robbed at gunpoint, and (b) the street leader. The street leader should ensure that information about crime gets to all residents of the street, including those not on email or the internet. It would of course greatly assist communication if more Obs residents were signed up members of ONW and took an active interest in what is happening in their area.
