I Fully agree with Brian. Yesterdays incident at the Spar should have been
covered by their own camera's as the guys were standing at the car park
entrance of the mall.

We have tried, cajoled, encouraged and talked to the Obs businesses
about getting some plan together and only a few have taken any steps
towards securing this part of Obs. In view of the increased criminal
activity, they are more at risk than ever. Crims see the businesses as
soft targets, because they are open to the public, have cash on the
premises and do not have any visible security in place. Until the
businesses get some strategy in place they shall continue being
targets.
We are in the process of getting extra CCTV coverage in Pepper Square,
but in my opinion, the shops, restaurants and pubs should do likewise
and position cameras in Lwr. Main Rd. We do not get much help from the
Metro Police, despite their laughable "Police Academy" slap-bang in
Obs and their blind "Cyclops" cameras that see eff-all, because
"Cyclops" is either taking a nap and his one eye is closed, or he
needs a monocle. Face facts, folks, if the community does not get more
involved, the Crims are going to take more and bolder chances, at
enriching themselves at your expense.
When last did anyone see a Metro Police officer actually working in
Obs? Once again, it seems the only option is to employ some mean
security guards. Now here are some ideas...
Obs businesses need to get connected with two-way radio's. That way,
they can have communications with each other, SAPS and ADT.
Put up some money for CCTV monitors, out in the street and in their
premises.
Improve the lighting in Lwr. Main Rd.
Put up some bounty money as a reward for police informers and bounty
hunters.
Rent-a-cop now and again. Set up an observation post, so the area can
be monitored.
We have to get rid of this scourge, one way or another.
Brian.
