Hi Brian, I read with interest the article in yesterday's Cape Times about the City of Cape Town's plan to raid and investigate five "problem buildings". I do hope the derelict property right next door to me at 81 Lower Wrensch Road, Observatory, is one of them. It certainly ticks all the boxes to qualify it as a problem. It is in a terrible state and poses a health and safety risk to the vagrants, prostitutes and criminals that inhabit it as well as to the surrounding area. If you scroll down you will be able to read all about this horror-show building which has been deliberately allowed by its owner to slide into a state of extreme disrepair. I would appreciate it if you could get back to me and let me know whether there is anything that can be done about it in light of this new "problem building" campaign. Kind regards, Jane Vorster Hi We are currently testing out our new initiative by selecting 5 diverse problem building around the Metro. So far we are dealing with 3. Once we have gone through the process and found our what works and what does not work we will then start looking at the other buildings. We hope to finish the pilot project by the end of August. As you can imagine there are many problem buildings and it will be difficult to know which to deal with first. I do know from first hand experience the your Ward Councillor, Cedric Thomas, is doing all that he can to get this particular building sorted out. I have not doubt whatsoever that when we start looking at other buildings he will continue to do all he can to get the old diary building as a priority.
