It is comforting to see the way our neighbours in Mowbray are operating - see the News Flash below. David Raphael 072 065 7223 Chairperson OBS NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH
_____ From: Gill Lanham [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 12 October 2009 09:24 PM To: John and Gill Lanham Subject: RNW Newsflash 153 - SAPS Visible Policing - THANK YOU! * Its that time of year again.............people on the move and home owners renovating. Please let me know of any rooms, flats, student and other accommodation that you may have available, as well as any details of contractors that you have been satisfied with, for my informal database which I keep for the RNW residents. VISIT THE RNW WEBSITE AT http://www.contextsolutions.co.za/rnw/ Dear Residents Just to remind us all re the effectiveness of alert residents, together with the visible policing.......even in the event of a crime that wasn't! A few reminders for all of us. 1. This afternoon I received a call from a resident concerned about a mini bus taxi parked in Cross Rd, just off Alma Rd. Reminder: Have the Mowbray Police Station 021 680 9580 and Sector 2 Van 0798941466 numbers in your cellphones! Reminder: Mini bus taxis have set routes and have no business in residential areas. If you see a mini bus taxi in the RNW area call SAPS to check on it. 2. I called the Sector Van - the cellphone just rang. Then I called the Mowbray SAPS and reported the suspicious vehicle. I was asked if there were occupants in the vehicle and what the registration was. I couldn't answer either. Reminder: Try to provide the police with as much information as possible, especially make and registration when reporting vehicles, and clothing and defining features when describing people. Reminder: If you do not get a response from the Sector Van, please let SAPS Mowbray know, as well as Doug van der Horst or myself. This will then be followed up. 3. Within 5 minutes 3 sector vans (and 1 ADT van) and a posse of policemen were checking the taxi. His details were cleared - he had apparently been waiting to collect a friend - and the police were satisfied that all was in order. 4. Should the police have been called for what turned out to be a false alarm? YES YES and YES again, is what they assured me. Rather be safe than sorry. Thanks to SAPS Mowbray for their prompt response. regards Gill Lanham * Please report ALL security incidents within the Rosebank Neighbourhood Watch area to Gill Lanham at [email protected] or tel. 021 689 9258 even if the incident has already been reported to the police and/or ADT. This is the only way we can keep everyone up to date with what is happening in our community. * This service acts in good faith, in distributing the information received. The onus is on those providing the information to check its accuracy, and if necessary to consult with anyone who might be adversely affected by its distribution. * Please help neighbours who don't have email by printing out and/or passing on messages you think they need to see. * Please report any suspicious activity that might need investigation to ADT's control room at 086 1212 300. However, if you suspect that criminal activity is in progress or you feel in danger, report it immediately to the police on 0798941466 (sector policing van in our area) or 10111 (flying squad) as well as to ADT's emergency number 086 12 12 301 and/or press your panic button.
