Copper thieves broke into a vacant house in Blake Rd last night. They
were apparently seen entering the side of the house by Vetus Schola
patrollers who spotted them climbing in through gyppo'd burglar bars
and a smashed window.

There was a stand-off between Vetus Schola and the intruders for a
good while.....with the intruders inside the house and Vetus Schola
standing guard outside the house to prevent the thieves from leaving
while they (Vetus Schola) waited for SAPS back-up. However.....

There were apparently only two SAPS vehicles on duty last
nigh......one of which was dealing with many call-outs in Woodstock
- the other vehicle had been called to assist a woman who was being
strangled by a mentally disturbed person between the Station Rd bridge
and the Station.

By the time the SAPS arrived the intruders, it appeared, had made
their getaway thru a hole in the roof of the house they had
stripped.

Veta Schola found some copper piping and aluminium left behind in a
green refuse bag.
