The City of Cape Town will officially open the Observatory Village Green 'Quality Open Space' and the Rededication of the War Memorial today scheduled for 5pm today. Ward Councillor, Cedric Thomas, will officiate.
The War Memorial was originally located on Settlers Way just below Hospital Bend and has since been relocated to the Village Green. In a statement the city says the space project was created to link 2010 soccer tournament to local improvement initiatives. "Equally important was the need to extend the existing City programme of providing public open spaces where people can gather and socialise," the statement said. This is the first I have heard about it. Is the City trying to keep it secret so that there are no demonstrations against the Metro trampling our new grass? I wonder why they do not communicate with us?
