Observatory Neighbourhood Watch Newsletter

Dear resident,
WEEKEND CRIME

* Theft out of vehicle 3:
Lower Main
Speke
Lower Main
The weekend crime was exceptionally low with no night-time crime reported at
all. This is probably related to the weekend night patrolling of Constable
Ontong, Vetus Schola and ONW. I am told that the streets are quiet at night
at the moment, apart from people spilling out of the clubs on Lower Main.

This good weekend does not mean we have solved the crime problem. Obs crime
is always spasmodic and it is only with the combined efforts of SAPS, Vetus
Schola and ONW patrollers that we will control it. Already last night about
9pm there was an armed robbery in Anzio Road by 4 black males.
OBSID MOVES AND CHANGES

* The Obsid office is moving on Friday from 21 Lower main to 41
Station (The dark blue building on the corner Station and James). The
telephone numbers remain the same.
* Vetus Schola are moving on Friday from 21 Lower Main to their new
Wendy house in Pepper Square.
* The Vetus Schola magnetic baton system should also become
operational on Friday. This an arrangement to make sure that patrollers are
kept on the move in the areas they should be patrolling. They have to touch
their magnetic batons onto buttons set up around Obs in an order specified
by the computer within planned times. Deviances have to be reported.
ONW PATROLS AND RADIOS

Our patrols have been severely disrupted over recent weeks by a major radio
problem. However the radios are now fully in action again.

The fault was with the radio authorities who allowed a powerful station to
use a wavelength close to ours. Our radios have been reprogrammed to a new
wavelength and the ADT channel removed from the scanning facility. This
means that there is no longer any chat from other districts.

Anyone who has not had their radio reprogrammed or wishes to purchase a
radio please contact Trevor Hughes on 072 438 6800 or [email protected].

Anyone interested in taking part in our patrols with radios please contact
James Cowley 082 926 1220, the ONW Patrol Coordinator. He can organise to
lend you a radio on patrols.

Take care,

David
