In the early hours of this morning there was an attempted burglary in
Heseldon Road. The ADT Officer Gceya responded immediately, on
investigatation he found that a glass door had been broken, but no access
gained. As he was calling for backup he saw the suspect jump over the wall
into the neighbours property on the corner of Heseldon and Muir Roads. He
found the suspect on the premises and wrestled with him when the suspect
drew a firearm and shot the ADT Officer in the chest, fortunately he had a
bullet proof vest on but then a second shot was fired hitting the Officer in
the shoulder. The suspect fled and opened fire on two Policeman, one from
Rondebosch police and the other from Claremont police who were providing
back up.

I am very relieved to report that all three Officers are recovering in
hospital and wish them well and on behalf of the Rondebosch community I
would like to thank them for putting their lives on the line for us. An
incident like this just highlights how committed and these men are to
keeping us safe.
