1. Shooting in RCID area
Many of you will have read about the shooting on Friday morning, in which an
ADT officer and 2 SAPS officers were injured near Sandown Rd. We join with
the RCID community in wishing the 3 officers a speedy recovery. Shirley
Aldum reports that A/R Office Gceya (ADT) was discharged on Friday and is
doing well under the circumstances. Cst. Sanqela from Rondebosch SAPS
underwent an operation to repair the damage where the bullet penetrated his
leg and Cst. Lagunya from Claremont SAPS also underwent an operation as his
knee was shattered and his shoulder/arm fractured. Times like these remind
us of the enormous debt we owe the people who dedicate themselves to keeping
us safe.

2. Schoolboys mugged - please warn your children
2.1 A 14 year old schoolboy was mugged on his way home from Westerford
High after sport. He walked through the subway and up towards Campground Rd.
In Glasgow Rd (this is a closed road that you can walk, but not drive into
Campground, 50m from entrance to Groote Schuur Primary School) he was
accosted by two males (foreign ?) armed with a knife and asked for his
cellphone and money. He did not resist and thankfully was not hurt.
2.2 A Rondebosch boy was mugged at St Thomas's church for his cellphone on
the way home after school from RBHS. He fortunately wrote down a detailed
description of the mugger moments after the event and he says Bosch boys
have been plagued by this character in recent years -- always striking in
the afternoons. Capt. Arries from the Rondebosch SAPS is investigating and
will do whatever he can to try to identify the suspect from the description
given.
* Boys from the RNW area have also been mugged in this spot in the past, and
had their bikes and/or cellphones stolen.

Parents are asked to please ask their sons and daughters to be aware that
there have been 3 incidents recently where scholars have been robbed and to
walk in pairs, if possible, and to avoid subways or desolate areas.

3. Bicycle theft
There have been a number of bicycles stolen in Rondebosch this past month -
and a couple in Rosebank too.
Please ensure that your garage doors and garden sheds are locked and that
bicycles are not left in the garden where they are visible from the street.
Remember, too to check "Gumtree" if you have had a bike stolen - any other
goods, for that matter, as ocassionally stolen goods are advertised here.

4. Amnesty for Illegal Fire Arms
Until the 30th April 2010 ANY illegal firearms i.e. unlicensed firearms,
can be handed in at any Police Station - NO QUESTIONS ASKED !

* Please help neighbours who don't have email by printing out and/or passing
on messages you think they need to see.

Take care,
