Dear All. Thanks for your comment and response. I have forwarded to David the tele number of the gentleman in Kenilworth /Wynberg (below the line ) where there is a private security initiative. They now have 18 huts positioned in this area and it works like a dream. Most of the huts are sponsored it would seem and they even have sponsors from Pick and Pay for teas and coffees etc. for the guards etc. etc. They only employ Congolees who are not regarded as security guards (however dressed as such) but their function is to observe and report. They get fed by the residents who take turns (they have a roster in place for this ) to cut their salary expense to these guards. I propose that we look into this scheme and see how it can effectively work for us or not. It works perfectly in the area mentioned. Obs can be different but that is for us to establish.and figure out how it can be adapted to OBS. I honestly believe that every possible measure needs to be applied now to stop any thug even wanting to pass by OBS . They need to feel so uncomfortable and unwelcome. They need to get the message loud and clear , but need to be stopped before they can even or want to attempt any act of crime in our suburb. Having posters and doing the rounds with the police early evening is not going to save lives . Thugs circumvent every system. They are masters at it. We need 24 hour on the spot monitoring and patrol in action. This is a WAR ZONE being won by the thugs thus far. !
Why should any person, young or old, feel unsafe on our streets .? Why should we not carry items on us ? . These are our streets and they are the intruders who need to feel uncomfortable. They sneak in and sneak out far too easy and this needs to be stopped now for once and for all. Lets not make excuses, but get the ball rolling for a new no tolerance approach to crime and it starts, I agree, with each and every one of us. ! We need to see what our budget is and what can be done within this budget and then we need to find ways and means to improve our security as widely as possible within our means to the benefit of the complete Obs community. Every person walking on the street or arriving home whatever the hour day or night, , must feel safe and know there is help almost a call away if at all necessary. . Each and every road can be a hot spot as any time as we know and have all experienced. Our streets must become safe again.!! Security is no. 1 and most prime and thereafter we can worry about the rest. Kind regards to all ! Annemarie and trust to meet you all soon. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, February 17, 2010 2:14 PM To: Abridged Recipients Subject: [obsnw] Abridged summary of [email protected] - 19 Messages in 4 Topics Today's Topic Summary Group: http://groups.google.com/group/obsnw/topics * Radio license fees. <> [9 Updates] * FW: STUDENT MURDER AND CRIME UPDATE <> [3 Updates] * [obsnw] Re Student Murdered and Security <> Proposal [6 Updates] * [obsnw] Abridged summary of <> [email protected] - 1 Message in 1 Topic [1 Update] Topic: Radio license fees. <http://groups.google.com/group/obsnw/t/98dc76f38cbe978b> Big Brian <[email protected]> Feb 16 10:51AM -0800 ^ <> Dear Observatory, It has come to my attention that radio license fees are due to be paid to ICASA.
