Last night we heard a loud bang and a car alarm go off at about 21h40.
Myself and all my neighbours were out in a flash to see what was going on.

It was my neighbour's car alarm. We then realised the loud bang was the
electric fencing had been kicked free and landed on his car!

A man was seen running up the road pulling a small travel bag, he cut across
Mowbray Electical's driveway toward the Engen Garage, where a parked tow
truck driver blocked the running man, who reluctantly let go of the bag to
escape into a waiting vehicle parked at the garage on Main Road.

I called SAP who were there within 10min.

We finally worked out - the thief had robbed an apartment on Dane Street in
the Waverley block, put her laptop, handbag and other stuff into the travel
bag, climbed out the window and walked along a small ledge, kicked the 5 or
6 bar electric fence outward to Dane Street, hopped on the car and fled.

The Tow Truck driver was rude and arrogant and started going through the bag
at which point I did advise him that he was in possession of stolen goods
and I would report him as a suspect if he did not wait for the police before
going through the contents. He did NOT like this closed the bag and and
told me to give him money - reward for finding the bag! The cops arrived
and went through the bag asked the us if we knew a "Miss........" The
upstairs neighbour identified her and called her (a Med Student who was at
Med School studing at the time). All ended quite well, but with a miffed
tow truck driver who did not get compensated.

Thank you SAP and my neighbours for being so inquisitive and diligent.

Stay safe
Lisa
