Hello all
We should try and deal with some of the alarm and misinformation
circulating re. the proposed move of the Woodstock Police Station.
The relevant facts seem to be:
1. The move has been on the cards for many years.
2. The present building is overcrowded, unsafe, and in poor condition.
It was never designed as a police station, and one struggles to find
parking and access to the police station.
3. The location of the police station makes no difference to the
policing and patrolling of the area. The Woodstock precinct is divided
into four Sectors, each with its Sector Manager and its dedicated
patrol vehicles.
4.Sector 1 (which is Observatory) is in fact the main crime generator
of the area policed by Woodstock SAPS. Relocating the police station
therefore makes sense from a crime point of view.
5. A larger building would also be able to accommodate the detective
branch.
The front-page article in Wednesday's Argus was poorly researched,
factually inaccurate, alarmist and misleading, and threatens to
polarize our community. No one will be 'left without a police
station'!
