I don't want to be alarmist, and I know that there have been terrible rumours in the past that have proved groundless, but I thought I should mention this. There have been some rumours in the press:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/video/2010/may/14/migrants-fear-violence-south-africa Our maid/char is certainly taking it seriously. Despite there being no work in Zimbabwe, and her family being very short of money, she is leaving for Zimbabwe in two weeks time. She has been getting death threats. She says that she has been told that 'foreigners will be killed after the world cup, and they will kill the boers too, she must be gone before the 12th of July'. There is an organisation that is tracking this violence and they have concerns too: http://www.cormsa.org.za/2010/05/17/threats-of-further-xenophobic-violence-continue-video/ Is anybody else aware of this? Should we be reporting this to somebody? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "The Observatory Neighbourhood watch" group.
