The latest murder in our precinct, reported in today's Cape Times (page 3), underlines (again) the apparent ineffectiveness of the Cyclops cameras when it comes to crime detection or prevention. I quote the reported comment from the *Woodstock station commander, Col van der Riel.* "While there had been a surveillance camera in the pub, the 'Cyclops' CCTV camera which should have recorded the incident had not been working." It is my contention these cameras - as operated and monitored at present - are a waste of ratepayers' money. I believe my view is supported by the ONW, by Obsid, by the OCA, and by the Woodstock Police themselves. I have corresponded on this issue with Robert Young, head of the Metro Police in Cape Town, and am happy to forward this to anyone who is interested.
