CRIME HOT SPOTS

Our new Obs Sector Manager, Constable Mark Berry
<mailto:[email protected]> [email protected] 082 302 5436 reports:

Hot Spots - Anzio rd has been standing out this month. So far, robbery and
theft of motor vehicle cases have been reported since last month already.
For the month crime has been low so far - just the theft out of mv cases
that are standing out so far. Problem roads are Oxford, Donne, Anzio,
Liesbeeck Parkway, Lower main and Station Road. 4 theft out of mv reported
this month already and one burglary res. I will focus on the theft out of
mv in the streets mentioned above.

SQUATTERS ON THE RIVER BANK

We had complaints of squatters in the bushes on the river bank between the
Observatory and the Wild Fig and screams and a possible mugging. However
Constable Berry has already moved them on.

RESIDENT WALK WITH THE POLICE AND DOGS

A walk is scheduled for this Thursday, 5th, starting at 7pm from the Spar
car park. Hope to see you there?

We look forward to to getting these walks going again weekly as the weather
improves.

WARNING

There is a white Golf, CA 246852, with 3 coloured occupants carrying out
hold ups in neighbouring districts, usually after 11pm. Please watch out and
report.

EYES PEELED AND REPORT

There has been a fresh spate of steel gutter thefts - often in broad
daylight. Also there has been a rash of hundreds of those awful, ugly
advertisements, stuck on lamp posts for enlargement cream and abortions. We
would dearly like to catch the culprits.

We should be able to spot and report crimes like this.

VETUS SCHOLA MOVE TO THE RAILWAY STATION

VS have moved to an office in the station. This office is now manned 24/7
with a radio base station and its own land line will be installed.

IMPORTANCE OF FINGER PRINTS

I must tell you that finger prints are particularly effective in obtaining
convictions, especially with the latest technology. Regularly, suspects are
picked up and their finger prints link them to a string of crimes and lead
to multiple convictions.

If you are a victim of a crime where there could be finger prints, please
protect flat surfaces where there could be prints and be patient. The Cape
Town finger print department are under pressure and could take time to get
to you.

DATES

We are having a Public Meeting on Saturday, 14th August at 10am at the
Community centre to vote in a committee to run our own Observatory Community
Police Sub Forum (CPSF). I think this is exciting because it makes Obs more
independent and it is a chance to bring in fresh people with new ideas to
replace those of us who are becoming old and jaded.

The monthly Combined Crime Meeting (Obsid, Obs NHW, CPSF and SAPS) is to be
held on Tuesday, 24th August at 10:00am at the Obsid Office at 41 Station
Road. All are welcome.

Take care,

David
