This year’s Observatory Festival of Arts will include an array of
entertainment – and the list keeps on growing!

A family season in collaboration with the Theatre Arts Admin
Collective is being held this year. This much anticipated feast of
theatre productions will be showcasing performances between the 29th
of November and the 11th of December and will enrich the community
festival, taking place this coming weekend from the 3rd until the 5th
of December.

Jungle Theatre will entertain with “Indlovu People” - a brilliant
adaptation of Herman Charles Bosman's “Mafikeng Road”, directed by
Tara Louise Notcutt.

The Rainbow Puppet Theatre presents leading local puppeteers “The Frog
Prince” and “Rumpelstiltskin”. Don’t miss “Embo” – ‘Wisdom of the
elders’ an excellent isiXhosa production by the Phakmani Youth Theatre
Group that’s been nominated for various awards! More notable
performances include “The Nest”, “The Sulky” and “The Stones” directed
and designed by Catherine Dodders and “Oooops!” created by Vincent
Myburgh and featuring stalwarts Yvette Hardy and Caroline Calburn.

Another theatre highlight is “Inja ka Vuyo (A boy and his dog)” from
Isibane in association with UNIMA SA.

“Kuvafula Land” directed by Nelson Musonda and the high-octane non-
stop laugh-a-minute comedy show “Theatre Sports” are set to have you
in stitches!

Musicians added to the line-up include the talented afro-jazz
collective “Sylvester Mazinyane trio” and Congolese outfit, “Jubu
Band” with Daniel Eppel. Acclaimed Cape Town based “Carambola” will
delight with an afro-Cuban salsa Caribbean band – featuring Joseph
Avergel, Minel Melandes, Jason Ward, Randal and Cort. Top musicians
Hilton Schilder, Steve Newman, Errol Dyers, All in One, The
Rudimentals, Tindziwo, Tim Parr, Adamu, Team Spirit, Andy Lund,
Cardigan Buzz, James Kibby, Jamie Jupiter and Greer will all be
setting the sound for the festival.

If you're a fan of chess, head over to Obz-sessions on Sunday 5
December from 10:00 am for the “Observatory Festival of Arts Rapid
Chess Championships”, under the auspices of Western Province Chess
Association and Chess South Africa.

For a lazy Saturday look out for the festival documentary screenings
taking place be at Obz-sessions on Saturday.

A unique “Kidz Zone” will keep the young ones entertained with face
painting, ball games, a jumping castle, drumming and interactive
activities. Treats and home-made goodies will be on sale.

The festival will no doubt entertain all! For more information and
