Festival times Friday 03-12-10 Hours: 3:30 – 23:00 Saturday 04-12-10 Hours 09:00 – 23:00 Sunday 05-12-10 Hours 09:00 – 18:00 Kindly note the following road closures Lower Main Road from Norwich to Milton Gordon Road Corners Nuttal and Trill Rd Corners James and Trill Road Corners Collingwood and Lower Main Road Both ends of Drake Street Station rd and Herschell Station rd and James Residents living within the road closures: Will receive an access pass to enable them to travel in and out of the closures. A rates or utilities bill /affidavit and proof of ID will be needed. Please collect your pass from 41Station Rd on Thursday or Friday (2/3 Dec) or contact 021-448 1395 Residents living in Observatory but outside the road closures: Have the option of a 3 day pass for R30, or R10 per day. Non-residents will pay a fee of R20/day. Pensioners and children below the age of 12 enter free of charge Residents are invited to an informal meeting this coming Wednesday at 11:00 at a Touch of Madness for any questions. A family season in collaboration with the Theatre Arts Admin Collective is being held this year. This much anticipated feast of theatre productions will be showcasing performances between the 29th of November and the 11th of December and will enrich the community festival, taking place this coming weekend from the 3rd until the 5th of December. Jungle Theatre will entertain with “Indlovu People” - a brilliant adaptation of Herman Charles Bosman's “Mafikeng Road”, directed by Tara Louise Notcutt. The Rainbow Puppet Theatre presents leading local puppeteers “The Frog Prince” and “Rumpelstiltskin”. Don’t miss “Embo” – ‘Wisdom of the elders’ an excellent isiXhosa production by the Phakmani Youth Theatre Group that’s been nominated for various awards! More notable performances include “The Nest”, “The Sulky” and “The Stones” directed and designed by Catherine Dodders and “Oooops!” created by Vincent Myburgh and featuring stalwarts Yvette Hardy and Caroline Calburn. Another theatre highlight is “Inja ka Vuyo (A boy and his dog)” from Isibane in association with UNIMA SA. “Kuvafula Land” directed by Nelson Musonda and the high-octane non- stop laugh-a-minute comedy show “Theatre Sports” are set to have you in stitches! Musicians added to the line-up include the talented afro-jazz collective “Sylvester Mazinyane trio” and Congolese outfit, “Jubu Band” with Daniel Eppel. Acclaimed Cape Town based “Carambola” will delight with an afro-Cuban salsa Caribbean band – featuring Joseph Avergel, Minel Melandes, Jason Ward, Randal and Cort. Top musicians Hilton Schilder, Steve Newman, Errol Dyers, All in One, The Rudimentals, Tindziwo, Tim Parr, Adamu, Team Spirit, Andy Lund, Cardigan Buzz, James Kibby, Jamie Jupiter and Greer will all be setting the sound for the festival. If you're a fan of chess, head over to Obz-sessions on Sunday 5 December from 10:00 am for the “Observatory Festival of Arts Rapid Chess Championships”, under the auspices of Western Province Chess Association and Chess South Africa. For a lazy Saturday look out for the festival documentary screenings taking place be at Obz-sessions on Saturday. A unique “Kidz Zone” will keep the young ones entertained with face painting, ball games, a jumping castle, drumming and interactive activities. Treats and home-made goodies will be on sale.
