On Monday 3 Jan 11 at approx 9 pm Johan Nortuur telephoned me reporting a
spate of robberies happening at/off his premises at 68 Strubens Road. He
also owns no’s 66 & 64 being places of accommodation. He reported that over
a period of ten days, before his call to me, he had lost a wheelbarrow, a
rather heavy braai stand and drum arrangement, washing off the washing line,
an aluminum ladder, a host off garden tools and accessories. The main
property being ransacked, no 68, is adjacent the subway on the Mollenvliet
junction to Strubens Road and supposedly a side gate from that subway
passage leading onto his property. The three property rears are directly
onto the railway line, but most of no’s 66 & 64 are fairly well
protected/fenced and supposedly no 68 as well. The burglaries are carried
out on alternate days during the day between 7 am and 5 pm over the 10 day
period.

Strollers/vagrants often sit behind the fencing on the railway line side
doing their usual thing, smoking, drinking and what not else. He is keenly
aware of people using the railway line as a thoroughfare to wherever
places. He had contacted the Spoornet etc but no success or replies and
contacted SAPS on Monday and hence to me. I explained he is on the border
of the OBSID and more over onto the GSH CID. However, kindly see what may be
done re a concerted effort to catch the perpetrators and put an end to the
spate of petty but serious enough robberies.

Your assistance in this matter will be much appreciated.

The above was addressed to the VS Manager, the Groote Schuur CID and the
SAPS Area Manager for action

James
