At 16H08, I turned into Scott Road and noticed an ADT officer at the
above premises, responding to an alarm. I pulled over and offered to
assist. After gaining access to the property, it became apparent that
there was smoke within the domicile. As time was of the essence, we
had to force entry, assisted by another ADT officer who had arrived as
back-up.
We breached the security gate and entered the premises, to isolate and
extinguish the source of ignition and smoke.
A pot had been left unattended on the stove, by the resident.
Additional ADT officers arrived on the scene, shortly followed by the
City of Cape Towns' finest, the Fire Brigade.
Once the safety of the premises was assured, the resident arrived
home, to his surprise, to find his home occupied by ADT and the Fire
Brigade. He was a tad annoyed that his security gate was broken.
Oh well, better a broken security gate than a razed house.
Please do not leave pots on your stove unattended.
The real heroes are ADT and the Fire Department.
I was simply passing by, and yes, I broke his security gate.
Brian.
