Our Sector Manager, Constable Mark Berry writes:

Hi everyone. I just don't have any luck in cellphones. Back to the
blackberry. Lost my other phone while running after a suspect last week.
Sorry for keeping all of you waiting.

I was in a meeting with the general on friday. We discussed the current
crime situation in the whole cape town cluster. we are currently struggling
with the increase of theft out of mv, theft of mv, housebreakings and house
robberies in the cape town cluster. However sector 1 observatory does not
seem to be a problem accept for the theft of mv cases reported. The last
couple of weeks we have shown a increase in our car theft cases. Its bad
news and we have to work even harder to police this problem. I've been
working a lot of extra hours to try and bring the theft of mv down. This
past week there were 2 cars reported stolen. there were also 2 card
recovered. One in guguletho and one in elsies river. Both stolen in obs. Our
theft out of mv came down with about 45%. Housebreakings is also bit of
problem still but better than last year atleast. House robberies there were
one case reported for the month in obs.

Our target for drugs in observatory was also reached. We arrested a lot of
suspects in obs this month for drugs and I'm sure you heard about the big
bust in oxford rd where a lot of drugs were found.

I also visited the premises of 6 clifton terrace. Spoke to the owner of the
house as well. The previous tenants moved out the 5th of june and they now
have students from america staying there. They moved in the eleventh of this
month.

I received some complaints by members of the public about barmooda. They
told me that the police are phoned and nothing is done about the noise. I've
put in a statement against Barmooda and will also find out who the members
is who attended the complaints. The statement will be given to our dpo who
will then take it further. I've had enough of this clubs. We need to address
this problem once and for all so that we can focus more on the crime such as
theft of mv. I will also get law enforcement and metro police more involved
to help us out with the problems at the clubs. Especially on Wednesdays,
fridays and saturdays when the clubs is busy.

Further more, our crime does not look that bad accept for the theft of mv
cases. Enjoy the rest of the weekend. Stay safe.

Clearly Mark is very active but what he writes is far from the full story
because SAPS only react to and report on crime which is recorded. I know of
3 armed robberies in Obs (2 with pistols, 1 knives) in recent weeks which
have not been recorded. There are certainly more.

PLEASE REPORT ALL CRIME ON 10111 AND GET A REFERENCE NUMBER because then we
know it has at least been recorded. Often crimes are reported but not
recorded because the victim is not prepared to journey all the way to
Woodstock Police Station and go through the procedure of opening a case.

It would be great if you would email me the reference numbers of crimes you
report on 10111.

Take care,

David
