Dear Doug
This is the information I received from the Electricity Department. I have been engaging with the Director for Electricity and the Executive Director for Utilities. They are apparently taking steps to rectify the continuous problem. I am monitoring this. Regards Brett From: John Petersen Sent: 21 June 2011 09:35 AM To: Leslie John Rencontre Subject: RE: Power Outages in Observatory Hi there This is an isolated incident where we suspect a defective circuit breaker installed in a circuit breaker black box, on top of the pole, malfunctioned and caught alight. This is not the first time it happened as it has been experienced in other areas. John Graham has been informed and is investigating with CBI on the cause of the circuit breaker overheating. The overheating caused a flashover/fault on the low voltage network and the main circuit breaker in the substation tripped. Due to the many outages that evening/night (16-17June 2011), the outage was long as staff needed to attend to work on a ‘first come, first serve’ basis. We are currently installing new cables and is undergrounding the overhead line reticulation in Polo Rd, Observatory and the black boxes are being removed until the outcome of the investgation. Have all the problems now been fixed, can we be assured that we will not go down again, especially with the substation box in Scott Road. Trust that someone will communicate what the current situation is. Regards, Doug. Once again after all the promises after the last lot of power outages, the transformer truck that spent the night whilst the electricity department replaced (fixed) the cables the last time, we were assured that this time they had not “patched” the problem. (The power being off for 18 hours) Well on the 15/06 we had rain, and just after midnight the power went off AGAIN, I called the elect department and got a reference number 1002915878. Well when I went off to work at 06H00 on the 16/06, the power was still out. And to my annoyance on coming out of my house, there on the corner of Campbell and Scott Streets is …..yes you are right, the elect department at the same grey power box substation that was supposed to have been replaced with NEW CABLES…..I thought this box had been replaced with everything new, at the last power outage. My annoyance was very evident to the technicians present……..and it was only at 10H00 on the 16/06 that the power was back on again. I believe the fire department was called as a couple of poles had minor fires on them (this is what I have heard from neighbours, as of course I was not there) WHAT IS THE PROBLEM…….do we not have the expertise to fix this box and its constant problems. Is it not time our Ward Councilor stood up and was counted to ensure that this problem is solved. I repeat, Enough is Enough. Regards, Doug. I agree with you about the very poor service, trouble is that with all the patch working taking place, we just go down at the slightest bit of inclement weather. James mentioned something about the elect. service station at the top of Rochester Road needs servicing, maybe we should start a thread to see what is actually happening with regards this overhaul. I am in 28 Campbell Street. Do not suppose the OBS improvement district could assist in any way. Just a thought…… Regards, Doug.
