Tonight just past 02:00, a heavy SAPS presence was witnessed closing almost all clubs in the strip and around Obs something which seems long overdue.
The liquor law stipulates that clubs and pubs should close at their stipulated times which is (still) 02:00 with exception of Stones 03:00 and Barmooda & Gandalf's at 04:00 All this should be normal and civilised practise – but it was NOT - statistics shows habitual closure of rogue clubs at 04:00 onwards to 05:00 and even much later and thereby disturbing working residents in the early morning. Observatory Civic Organisations have been fighting for this compliance with the authorities for a long time. Despite promises of strict compliance and "rings of steel" and more phrases very little action was undertaken to act as a real deterrent. Rogue clubs appear to attract criminals and drug addicts to the area they mingle in with the crowd. There are untold numbers of Innocent residents and visitors having been victims of robberies, break-in, car thefts and worse, many which have never been reported. Therefore the chaps in blue are applauded to go out in the rain and do what they had to do and did. Whilst all this should be normal practice - after all if we don't pay taxes we get hammered - we ask SAPS to continue with this decisive action on a continuous basis, the quicker the pubs comply with the legislation the less crime there should be and the more time they can spend on less crime. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "The Observatory Neighbourhood watch" group.
