A great well done to Woodstock SAPS and the Crime Prevention Unit for the drug bust as was reported below. Community information is paramount in SAPS being able to deal with Woodstock, Salt River and Observatory crime and drugs situations. ** *JULY 2011/07/08. * *Media Statement by the Station Commissioner , Woodstock, Area West Metropole, Western Cape , Sergeant Hilton Malila .* ** ** ** ** *SEVEN ARRESTED AND DRUGS WORTH R75 000-00 SEIZED IN WOODSTOCK :* * * On Thursday ( 2011-07-07 ) at approximately 15:00 , the Woodstock Police, newly erected crime prevention unit , under the command of Sergeant Rudi Van Zyl , executed a searched warrant in Wright street , and arrested five men and two(2) ladies between the ages of 26 and 43 years old ,for being in possession of drugs to the street value of R75 000-00.**** ** ** The arrest follows during crime prevention operations conducted in the Woodstock precinct on the day . The officers received information about ongoing drug trafficking activities that takes place on an informal settlement situated on a premises in Wright street . During the execution , of a search warrant ,we confiscated 1412 (one thousand four hundred and twelve ) packets of tik, that was hidden between the wooden walls of one of the wendy houses situated on the premises . We arrested seven people that was on the premises at the time . **** The street value of the drugs confiscated is approximately R75 000-00 . **** ** ** The suspects currently in police custody are facing charges of Dealing and possession of drugs. They will appear in the Cape Town magistrates’ court on Monday ( 2011-07-011). **** This was indeed one of the biggest drug bust ever in the precinct . The focus of the new crime prevention unit will be to eradicate drug trafficking in the precinct , and to police property related crime incidents .
