Please accept my apologies if this might have created some sort of perception that the Saps is planning things rapidly . That was not the intention, but one sometimes tries to react swiftly when one observes the surge in a particular crime category . The need to develop an interim plan without waiting for a periodic meeting is sometimes imminent , because a great deal of damage could have occurred where crime is concern. There is a general feeling that to have a public meeting at such short notice and badly prepared at that would be ill-advised. Some community leaders are talking about boycotting the meeting and I must say that I do not disagree with them. There is a public meeting planned for 6 September in Observatory and the various organisations have gone a long way to preparing for this one. If the Station Commander wants to address this meeting he is very welcome. Should he want to go on with this, I just feel that there is no use of having a CPF at all, especially after all the other recent incidents aimed at limiting our work by SAPS both at station as well as provincial level.
