Here is the response from Henk Stutterheim on behalf of the OCA, in regard to the application for Lion Corner's liquor licence: " The OCA wishes to note that it has no objection to the application for a liquor licence by the business known as Lion Corner, Lower Main Road, Observatory subject to the following conditions: · That the owner obtains a business licence from the City Health Department. · That there is no live music allowed on the premises and · That the activities of the business do not cause a disturbance to the adjacent residential properties." *St Michael’s Road* * * Noted that since Woolworths Financial Services has moved into the old Lion match factory, the staff have taken to parking on the pavement on both sides of the road. This crowd should be found parking on the premises. Should someone from the Obsid pay them a visit to sort out this problem. I note the other day the traffic department paid a visit to the area and tickets were issued, but this does not seem to have helped. OBSID have been in talks with Woolworth about this issue and will be meeting with their management this week. Several complaints in regards to this have now been received and we will stress this to them. I have been in talks with City officials - and we will meet soon to discuss the possible implementation of resident parking permits - which would be a great help in the suburb. *St Michael’s Road * * * Once again the street gutter closest to the take away is blocked with discarded papers and fast food wrappings, I take it that Woolworths do not have a canteen so the staff tens to support the corner café, and then just dump the wrapping in the street. Woolworths confirmed that they have more than one on site canteen. We suspect the folks using the corner shop are the smokers and will ask W to implement waste bins in front of their building. I have also asked the OBSID cleaning team to spend some more time in that area. *Street Cleaning * * * Note that in Campbell street, a large amount of growth on the pavements, should the team who cleans the streets not be spraying to kill this growth in the cracks and where the pavement drainage pipes have been stolen and never replaced. Our cleaning team carry spades with them in order to spade off larger weeds as they go about their regular cleaning routine. We are following up with Council on a constant basis as their yearly weed spraying is due. We also have a 'roaming cleaner' who focusses on the areas which are particularly bad - and we are considering having the team work overtime to tackle the worst areas. Could you please let me know the exact locations (cnr of etc.) where draining pipes need replacing? - Council have been very efficient in coming out to repair these. Doug.
