Hm, the website http://www.statssa.gov.za/census2011/faq.asp says it takes about 35 minutes and somewhere else I saw a huge questionnaire with plenty moire questions than:

"you really only need to tell them how many people live at your address.
"

What is right?

Dear Observatory Residents

The South African Census process is underway and while the public has been advised to be cooperative, we urge you to keep your home and personal security top of mind.

Information from Security Management Consultants offers some valuable tips on what to be aware of when someone knocks on your door:

  • All Census workers will have a badge, a handheld device, a Census Bureau canvas bag and a confidentiality notice. Ask to see their identification and their badge before answering their questions.
  • Census workers are currently only knocking on doors to verify address information so there should be no reason for them to want to come into your home.
  • Do not divulge your identity number, credit card or banking information, even if they claim they need it for the Census.
  • No matter what they ask, you really only need to tell them how many people live at your address.
  • While the Census Bureau might ask for basic financial information, such as a salary range, you don't have to answer anything about your financial situation. The Census Bureau will not ask for bank account or credit card numbers nor will employees solicit donations. Anyone asking for that information is NOT with the Census Bureau.
  • During the Census process, Census workers may contact you by telephone, post or in person at home. The Census Bureau will not contact you by email so be on the lookout for email scams impersonating the Census. Never click on a link or open any attachments in an email that are supposedly from the Census Bureau.

Please remember that your personal security is your responsibility too. Remain vigilant and don't hesitate to report anything suspicious in Obs to Vetus Schola on 021-447-1066 / sms to 072 063 1653.
