my condolences to heidi and helen's family, and thank you for looking
after helen when she needed love and support. helen was in such pain,
and at last she is free.
her devotion to observatory carried the passion that has helped build
the community structures from the early days of the first meeting of a
revived oca (i think 3 residents came, with brian gray and helen holding
the meeting, but i stand to be corrected), to the eager days of
developing the concept of the pepper square car park with brian as a
fundraising mechanism for the improvement of obs, which helen doggedly
supported and ran through years of limping down station road, fielding
'phone calls from parkers at all times of the day and night, dealing
with booms and ticket boxes broken by cars and spar delivery trucks,
serving for decades on various local committees as treasurer - oca, onw,
ocrc - and building close working ties with woodstock saps - both the
police, and bernie and jessie at the trauma unit. not to be forgotten
are helen's big love for whom she'd always open her bag and offer a
treat - the dogs of observatory. helen did it all with love; it wasn't
a job to her. she was human, as the rest of us. yet the tattoo on her
arm said it: i love obs.

It is with great sadness that I convey the news as given by Helen's
sister Heidi, that Helen passed away this morning at 11.00.
She was apparently in much pain as a result of the visit she had made
to Observatory on Tuesday as having to be carried back and forth from
and to the vehicle.
She will be much missed by the ONW.
I extend on behalf of the ONW our deepest condolences to Heidi and the
rest of Helen's family.
