Each district of South Africa has a Police Station and each Police Station has a Community Police Forum (CPF). CPFs are chaired by civilians and provide the local community input and community monitoring of their Police.
We fall under the Woodstock Police Station and the Woodstock CPF which is divided into four sectors/sub forums. Observatory is known as Sector 1, the Sub Forum chairman has been Henk Stutterheim. We are told that in March this year the Woodstock Community Police Forum was annulled because the October Election of the new CPF committee was declared unconstitutional. This was apparently due to the correct outside officials being found not to have been represented at the election meeting. >From the Peoples Post 8 May 2012: "An annual general election meeting will take place on Tuesday 15 May from 18:00 until 20:00 at Observatory Recreation Hall in Collingwood Road, Observatory" I have not seen an Agenda but the objective of the meeting is believed to be to elect a new committee. I believe that it is important for residents to attend. For many years the Woodstock CPF was chaired by Teun Baartman and did excellent work, operating closely with Woodstock SAPS. I very much hope that this meeting will enable the Woodstock CPF to start operating properly again.
