Do we still make awards to deserving security officers? ARMED ROBBERY IN OBSID On Sunday the 23/09/2012 at 00h00 an armed robbery took place at no. 43 Station Road, Mini market. OPS reported being approached by a Somalia man that owns the Mini market. He told OPS that he had just been robbed by gunpoint. The armed robbers who wore black balaclavas had just fled the scene and the suspects split at James Road. OPS gave chase to the one who was proceeding towards Observatory Main Road in Cape Town direction. The suspect turned and fired one shot towards OPS but he OPS proceeded and saw a police vehicle from Mowbray and he stopped it and climbed onto it and chased the suspect. At Anzio Road on the corner of Main Road by the Graveyard the suspect tried to scale a fence but OPS and the Somalia shop owner cornered the suspect, his gun fell to the ground as he was trying to climb the fence. OPS used his baton to neutralise the suspect until the police arrived and handcuffed him.. Mowbray Police attended to the scene , The gun the suspect used to rob the Somalia shop was a Griffan 45 mm. It still had seven bullets in it. It was established that the suspect is an ex-soldier. We strongly recommend that these two security officers get recognition for their outstanding performance and perseverance. We also thank GSCID staff and Mowbray Police for providing excellent back up to OBSID.
