The cause of the outage is unknown at this stage, but the City confirms that there has been an electrical failure on its network. The following areas have reported electricity disruptions: the greater Athlone area including Heideveld, Bonteheuwel, and up until Epping and surrounds, as well as Thornton, Langa, Belgravia, Crawford, Rondebosch East, and the Vanguard Drive area towards Newlands, Mowbray, Observatory, the outskirts of Woodstock, Paarden Eiland, and Maitland – as well as many surrounding areas. The City is unfortunately not able to predict how long the outage will last until it has determined the cause and extent of the damage. The City’s Call Centre has experienced a very high volume of calls as a result of the outage.
