That was my car - the police said these guys have a technique of shorting out 
the battery which disables the alarm and causes all the windows and boot to 
open. They cannot be opened any other way unless one has a key, which was with 
me all the time. The reason they didn't jack up the car was probably that they 
couldn't with a standard jack as it was parked half on the pavement - we had to 
use an industrial jack to get it up. The cops have been pretty good and called 
me at least 3 times since the incident. Their advice is to make sure you have 
at least one lock nut per wheel and that you keep the lock nut spanner in your 
home and not in the car.

I see a similar thing happened to a BWM on Howe Street on the 19th, and my 
tennant tells me another car on Scott Street was hit the same night...they also 
bypassed the alarm system and got in without breaking any windows.
