Hi all The last Open Streets was a resounding success and we received overwhelming support from the community to hold it again.
We'd love for Open Streets to become a regular fixture on the Obs calendar - we want to hold the next one on 26 October. And if we manage it, have one every 3 months or so. Last time, the city funded the organisational costs for the event. But they have told us that if we want more, we need to fund it ourselves. Putting on an event like this carries many costs like the ones Ursula mentioned. We at Obsid have managed to work with Open Streets and the City to slash the original estimated costs for the event from R166,000 to R72,000. We hope to slash it further next time as we get better at doing it. But we need to raise the 72000 in our community, or we won't be able to do it. Open streets has set up a funding mechanism through Thundafund on the link below to enable people to donate. Trenchtown has generously offered to have a fundraiser this weekend. We challenge other businesses to follow suit so we can meet our funding target in the next two weeks! I have personally donated R250 now and I challenge other individuals in observatory to donate whatever they can to make this happen. Remember: if we don't make our targets - you get your money back. If we do meet the target, and have the event, we will publish an accounting of how every cent was spent. Let's make Open Streets happen together!
