Yes, we can commiserate with you as the same thing happened to us a few weeks’
ago. Send your Case number to [email protected]

Best wishes

Subject: Re: [obsnw] Stolen wheelie bin

Thanks, Frank. I contacted Ops but no luck. Now I need a case number and then
report back to the City to get a new one which I will paint in psychedelic
colours!

Hi Tracy,

Contact Ops 021 447-1066 perhaps they recovered your bin but

didn't know your street.

This what I posted a number of years ago:

Those who have suffered this inconvenience know that it is quite a
procedure to get a replacement bin

ALSO - please try and put your bin out for only the shortest possible
time necessary. Avoid putting your bin out the night before collection
and bring it back in as soon as you can.

Mark your bin with white paint, clearly stating your road and street
number. If you see a bin in a road that it is not meant to be in, call
the police or Ops.

Take down the six digit number on your bin it is at the back
under the hinges - about or less than 1cm height and filled in with
white paint. Trevor H suggested to take a photo.

Also be aware that bins can be of great assistance to criminals
wishing to climb over walls. BE AWARE!

If your bin has been stolen, you need to report the matter to the
police and get a docket number. Once you have that, you call the
Municipality at tel. 0860 102640, and read the docket number to the
person over the phone.

They then give you a notification number and send a new bin to your
house within 7-8 working days. If you want, you can also collect the
bin from the depot in Beach Road, quoting your ref.

You can now also report the theft on line to the city under service

request and track the progress click here for reporting.

Good Luck,

Hi

I live in Ivy Street and yesterday my wheelie bin was stolen. It was marked
with a big 10 in white. We searched all around the neighbouring streets to no
avail. I understand I need to report the theft to SAPs and get a case number.
Who do I then report the case number to and get a new bin?

Thanks
Tracy
