As discussed on the Alfred Rd hijacking thread, some streets and blocks within Obs have set up groups to share information about incidents within their specific areas. It seems like a good idea for immediate neighbours to be able to share information with one another, and to be able to contact one another if we need to. A simple list of names and phone numbers is one way to handle this. Another suggestion is to set up a WhatsApp group. Here's what a member of one of these groups told me:
*The WhatsApp is done in Oxford Road between Station and Trill and works extremely well for us.* *You can only have up to 50 residents in one group (household could have more than 1 users). You could link some groups through one person to other groups who can spread the message to their circle. Benefit is very local issues say wrongly parked car doesn't go far beyond people directly involved.* *Gather first All Names, addresses and cell numbers make a list and put this out to the group.* *Than one administrator has to enter ALL names in the group and is suggested that each responds briefly with their name and Street No eg "Frank # 1" for you it could "Jonah # 1? Crown" this is the important part for the group to know who is messaging.* Unless someone else is keen to administer this, in which case I'd be glad to hand the job over, I can collate the information and set the group up. Then we'll need everyone to try to enlist their neighbours to join. Reassuring them that their details will only be shared among the residents of the street or block - we can even keep the details away from this Obs-wide forum. Sound Ok?
