I am glad to read of the successes Obsid have had re the camera
installation. It may be lying through his teeth, but recently a club owner
told me that since the cameras were installed opposite his club, the
frequenting by Nigerian drug dealers have reduced significantly, in his
view, and that a further camera be set up on Norwich corner to deal with
the last few of Nigerian dealers, and that drugs are negative to his
business. So wishing you further success via the cameras, but still, in my
view too, crime seems to be holding on to Obs far too strong.

I agree, crime info must be communicated asap to our OPS Control by our Obs
public and for the keeping record of crime occurrence etc, etc. However, a
thin line exists not reporting crime to SAPS or to our OPS Control - as
nothing known - is nothing done bout it.

However for me, when I phone the Ops Control to log a suspicious person, a
crime just happened, or happened a few hours ago, or request for support,
and my call is answered by a reception clerk before I can convey my matter
to the Ops Control Room, often irks me. When I have to supply, in my view,
irrelevant information concerning my matter to the Controller according to
their checklist of details to be checked by them, then the time taken for
it to be dotted down and the repeating of my information already given, I
can then understand why members of the public might be holding back on
reporting minor, petty or more serious crimes to OPS Control. To report to
SAPS via the CSC (Community Service Center) is often another stumbling
block - just then to learn that your crime reported was too petty for SAPS
to respond to, concerned with, or to pen down. I acknowledge, in the
reporting of crime, not an easy subject, Wishing the OBSID well. Take care.
James
