This morning at 06.15, *Thursday 22 January 2015*, I came upon a burglar in our living room busy stealing a flat screen monitor. Upon my shouts, he sluggishly grabbed two laptops which he had already placed together, and ran out via a sliding door which he had unlocked beforehand. I immediately gave chase to the far Southern end of our property where he then scaled over a 2.3 meter boundary, but finding himself still on the same property, he ran along a disused passage towards Scott Road where he scaled across a 2.1 meter perimeter wall. My family had awoken due to my shouts and my wife saw him scale the wall as well. She then opened our front door on Scott Road, but he had apparently run off via Cook Street and into Grove Road. My daughter then gave chase shouting and whistling for help and saw him discard a brown jacket in Grove Road and followed him into Campbell Street and crossing over Polo Road. A Polo Road male resident then joined the chase and was shouting at the assailant upon which he threw down one of the laptops but continued running towards Rochester Road. Before crossing Rochester Road he threw down the 2nd laptop and made his getaway down Kipling Street. He however got away with my son in law’s wallet. My wife phoned the Police via 10111 but obviously, SAPS arrived a bit later and took down a statement. The burglar entered the living room via a small side window, which usually, was always left slightly open.
*The burglar is a colored male approximately in his middle 20’s, thin, approx 2.0 meters tall, and was wearing a black jacket and black pants. After he scaled over the 2nd wall, he presumably picked up the brown jacket which he must have left at the front of my property.* It was reported to me afterwards by a resident at* 44 Polo Road*, that he found presumably the same burglar in his back yard *this morning at 05.00*. He managed to give the prowler wearing a brown jacket a hefty punch, but that two persons were noticed fleeing from his property. The jacket was later handed to the police. The first burglary happened on our property on the morning of *Friday 9 January 2015* between 02.30 and 07.15 in which time two bicycles were left laying in the side-yard of our property the evening before, which were subsequently stolen. Upon checking if they were perhaps placed in the garage by my son in law, I found that a number of electric and cordless type power tools were stolen from the garage as well as all the frozen meat contents of the chest freezer. He gained access to the garage via a small window and carried his stolen wares out via the garage door and to the roadway in Scott Road via a side gate, which he had left open. Footage of the perpetrator was captured on camera by a nearby neighbour between 03.15 and 05.30. Unfortunately, the footage was not clear enough to make an arrest. The burglar was seen three times passing by in a hurried walk, with a large bag over his shoulder, presumably stashed with the stolen goods from our property, going along Cook Street to Rochester Road, glancing back at times. He was lastly seen again cycling away on one of the stolen bicycles, each time towards the Salt River direction. It was reported to us at midnight on *Sunday 18 January 2015,* of a Robins Road resident who was stabbed 5 times in his back after he had come across an intruder prowling around in the back yard of his property. The resident underwent surgery and is hopefully on a speedy mend. -- OPS [Obsid Public Safety] - 24/7 control room ---------------------------------------------- 021-447-1066 072-063-1653 For all emergencies please dial 10111 ---------------------------------------------- ONW: 082 081 0142, ONW email: [email protected] WEB: www.obswatch.org.za ---------------------------------------------- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups The Observatory Neighbourhood watch group.
