The ONW and the Sub-Sector CPF had become moribund and have now sprung back to life with fresh blood and fresh vigour. It is fantastic news for our beloved suburb. It had become lonely at Obsid and we felt that the tide of crime was rising all around us due to socio-economic factors over which no-one has any control. I was at a meeting of all CID managers the other day and I assure you that we are all in the same boat. What we can do is to work together - citizens as eyes and ears; Obsid security receiving and reacting to inputs from their own patrols, cameras and from the public; City Law Enforcement attending to the by-law enforcement and SAPS patrolling for crime prevention and arresting and prosecuting criminals. Our statistics show high and rising levels of crime in the first quarter, but in April there was a reduction of over 30% when compared to March. In our opinion this can be attributed to the ONW, their patrols, their revitalised relationship with Mark Berry and the radio network coming back into wider use. This help is so welcomed by Obsid. >From our part we will continue to assist and support the fight against the businesses which ruin our suburb. Barmooda, Reload and Ibiza Lounge are all dead and buried. Cozy Bar and Ezithebeni Braai Lounge are in their death throes. We feel that Ms Kelner, the owner of Trump Towers might be seeing the light that these businesses are just not worth having as tenants. We must all fight tooth and nail against any further licenses being issued to operators who do not share our ethics. We are sharing two Metro Law Enforcement officers with Woodstock CID on a trial basis for the month of May. Their main focus will be on the vagrancy issues but we advise you not to park illegally! The challenge is to maintain these structures - we must never let them die down after they succeed.
