This email just received from the City of Cape Town regarding the
Removal / Destruction of shelters built by Homeless Persons.
It has come to my attention that some SRAs are taking the law into
their own hands in the manner that homeless people and other socially
challenged individuals are being treated. Some of the allegations are
that the SRA security officers beat up these people (I have already
interacted with the relevant SRA Board) whilst in another case the
structures are being removed by the SRA with the assistance of law
enforcement personnel under cover of night. Such actions are illegal
and must cease forthwith lest the City launch an investigation and
take those SRAs to task as they are violating the individual’s
Constitutional rights and are also guilty of illegal actions.
