Hi Carolyn and ONW members, I'd like to report that victims of the Duke Street robbery were encouraged not to open a case by SAPS. This tendency was discussed at the security meeting and may explain why SAPS claim there's been a reduction in crime since December, whereas in Lower Obs at least there has clearly been a strong increase.
Also, I have been reporting on the empty horse box in Lower Obs for a while, which seems to have brought more crime than it has displaced (a mugging, house breaking and attempted car theft within meters of the box in the past couple weeks). There seems to be confusion not only with residents but also with management of what the rules for the patroller are, who is responsible for management, and basic operations like seeing that the box has a light, a lock and that the patroller has a charged radio. I'd be happy to attend and help organize a meeting to focus on Lower Observatory security issues as suggested by Carolyn. I hope that you all have a great weekend.
