The issue appears to be similar to some earlier versions as seen in
Debian bug reports.

I also wrote the author/developer Eric Cooper and he said "Please try changing 
the setting for $interval in approx.conf to 60
minutes (or less) and see if the problem still occurs".

  Checking for updates often results in Hash Sum mismatch.

  For example:
  root@io:~# apt-get update
  ...
  W: Failed to fetch 
gzip:/var/lib/apt/lists/partial/ppa:999_ppa_mythbuntu_0.25_ubuntu_dists_precise_main_binary-i386_Packages
  Hash Sum mismatch

  E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old
  ones used instead.

  
  The machine running approx is running 12.04 approx 5.1-1.2.
