It is what I am saying. If RHEL have not modules and tools included (Oracle Linux had, something), _OR_ if rpm's are not available for your specific kernel, then this combination should not be used in production at all, except if you have a very good test/stress laboratory.
Not a surprise that SLES9 OCFSv2 is extremely stable today (after a few iterations) - because everyone in SLES community uses _the same_ ocfs and kernel combination. Manual 'compiling' is good for my home or for the laboratory, but rarely for the production. (I usually avoid compiling even for the HBA device drivers from the vendor - experiments shows, that if drivers are not included in the system, they are not so well tested as embedded ones and can cause a problems, esp. after kernel upgrades). Embedded drivers are not panaceia - SLES10 broke OCFS in the one of last kernel updates - but it became known in a few days. Of course, embedded drivers are often _outdated_ - so such approach have it's own problems. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tim Lank" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Mark Fasheh" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; "Alexei_Roudnev" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cc: "OCFS2 Users List" <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, January 31, 2007 6:09 AM Subject: RE: [Ocfs2-users] Also just a comment to the Oracle guys Mark, I think that SLES includes your kernel module in its distributions & regular updates these days. When will Red Hat be doing this for RHEL? He never said it was _required_ for him to download a mainline kernel. To clarify - the 1.2.x series (for which we make rpms available) is a bugfix only release. Anything that's fixed in mainline is backported to that svn branch. Most of the time fixes get uploaded simultaneously. If you don't believe me, subscribe to the ocfs2-commits list (which tracks 1.2.x commits). So, please try to relax, and cut down on the constant yelling.
