Kindly Revert back your updated profile to [email protected] * LAN Engineer Raleigh, NC 6 Months The Department of Transportation (DOT) is seeking a short term (approx. 6 month) contractor for LAN/WAN support services. NCDOT has a number of LAN installation efforts of varying scale in the next six months. These involve new office openings, office relocations, office expansions, office renovations, and office closings, and organizational and personnel reassignments. Candidate will: • Assist in providing the LAN infrastructure for these business requirements. • Provide site survey information for network design and installing: testing, maintaining, upgrading, and troubleshooting the DOT computer network infrastructure hardware and software, including cabling, connectors, and network devices. • Interact with employees at all levels in all DOH, DMV, and other DOT offices across the state. • Participate in the network management of DOT network equipment at 550 sites. • Configure Layer 2 network switch hardware. • Work with network specialists, network contractors, network technicians, and Infrastructure support staff and Division and DMV support staff to provide assistance to computer support technicians in troubleshooting difficult network problems. • Work closely with personnel from other Infrastructure Service areas such as enterprise server support, enterprise database support, and firewall and security support. • Adhere to all applicable information systems security policies and standards *Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:* Required: • Ability to reorganize work assignments and adapt workload, if necessary, to unanticipated changes. • Ability to manage work assignments and with some latitude on actions or decisions. • Significant knowledge on LAN devices (particularly Nortel switches) and fiber & copper wiring and connectors. • Ability to develop solutions to wiring and switch problems and to investigate, research, and integrate new technologies and techniques to improve performance. • Understanding of customer requirements and business. • Ability to consult with management, on an on-going basis, to discuss alternative technical solutions.
